Blake covers InStyle magazine October 2011, the Australian edition. Inside, the lovely ‘Green Lantern’ actress dishes on fashion, being called a style icon, her ‘Gossip Girl’ outfits, movies and men.

On her love of fashion, Blake told InStyle that it didn’t spark while working on ‘Gossip Girl’. “No, I inherited it from my mother Elaine. My mum used to be a model and actress, and always enjoyed sewing my clothes herself when I was a kid. It was a ritual for us to roam vintage stores once a week. She inspired me to dress myself more unconventionally and to mix different styles. Gossip Girl, of course, gave me the chance to develop my passion even further. In the show I play the rich New York It-girl, who always wears the latest designer fashion. Every day I’ll find new amazing pieces by the best designers in the world in my set closet. Quite a paradise! I’m getting paid to wear fancy dresses in front of the camera. What else would I want?,” Lively says.

Blake admits that she is not the one to choose the outfits she wears in ‘Gossip Girl’. “Unfortunately, I don’t have enough time for that. I usually get home really late when we’re filming and instantly drop into my bed. But I work with a great stylist on set. She knows exactly what I want and sometimes also surprises me with great looks. When I see something I really like, I usually take a photo and send it to her so that she can get it for me. Pretty convenient! I love to mix different patterns, colors and fabrics and I’m always looking for new and stylish combinations. That’s what makes fashion so much fun,” the actress says.

Due to her amazing red carpet appearances and her ability of pulling off on-trend, flawless casual looks, Blake also gain the title of It-girl. On being considered a style icon, she told in the interview with InStyle that, “I feel very honored if people think that way of me but I never tried to be one. I understand why people like to see me as a fashion icon—after all, I have my own role models as well.”

Moreover, she mentions some of her inspirations. “I’ve always adored Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn. The style of their era was timeless and I’m very happy that a lot of modern designers still draw inspiration from them,” she says.

As for her favorite designers, the actress confesses that, “That list is endless. Luckily, there are so many talented and creative designers. I love the elegance of Zuhair Murad, the extravagance of Marchesa and, of course, Chanel. But I also like to wear Valentino, Zac Posen and Yoana Baraschi.” (Source)

Blake Lively for Chanel; Talks real life fashion icons

Blake Lively looks more sultry than sunny in her new ad for Chanel’s Mademoiselle handbag, but believe it or not the “Gossip Girl” star is pretty consistently upbeat, working to spread positivity.

“I’ve just always believed you should put a lot of positive out there,” she tells WWD. “When I have bad days, I just eat lots of chocolate ice cream and dance to the ‘Lion King’ soundtrack. It’s really odd, but it’s true.”

Odd indeed, but endearing all the same. The article adds that Lively’s good nature can be traced back to the age of four, when she was “walking down the street” and thought to herself, “it’s the perfect day to be happy, and I’ve never really lost that.”

Her “Gossip Girl” character Serena van der Woodsen has made a name for herself in the world of fashion, but when it comes to Lively’s real life icons — Katharine Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn all come to mind.

“I love when a woman can be empowered and glamorous but also add the strength of masculinity,” she says of her style.

Adding, “I love what [Sienna Miller] wears.”

Still humble, Lively gushes that she is in awe of her opportunity to be the face of a fashion house as major as Chanel.

“I have such a respect for fashion and such an appreciating for it that if there are people like Karl Lagerfeld out there designing, who am I?” she explains. “I want to bow down to them and be a representative for them if they’ll have me.”

She continues to praise Chanel’s head designer and creative director, saying that she’s surprised the campaign didn’t produce any shots of her “with my jaw on the floor.”

The blonde even ended her photo shoot by snapping a picture herself — whipping out her cell phone to capture Lagerfeld behind the camera pointed at her.

What do you think of the 23-year-old as the face of Chanel? Would you buy what Serena van deer Woodsen’s selling?

Blake Lively chooses roles over cash

“Gossip Girl” star Blake Lively snubs big money movie offers so she is not typecast as a “commercial” actress.

The 22-year-old shot to fame playing New York rich kid Serena van der Woodsen in the hit TV series, but will swap her glamorous character for a drug-addicted single mom in Ben Affleck’s upcoming film “The Town.”

And the star admits she has given up her dream of buying a piece of the Big Apple’s pricey real estate so she can take on low-paid roles in edgy projects.

She tells Britain’s Marie Claire, “I’m on a very commercial show so the last thing I want to do is a commercial movie. I wanna take risks, I don’t wanna play it safe.

“It would be nice to buy an apartment but I’m 22 and I don’t need to yet. I live in New York City. So. … I’m able to differentiate between what I want and need, and what I want more is to do great roles.” (Source)

How Blake Lively Conquered Her Shyness

Confident. Poised. Stylish. Glamorous. These are the kinds of words typically used to describe Blake Lively. Not shy.

But in fact, it’s true. The Gossip Girl star says she is naturally shy, and it was acting that forced her out of her comfort zone, giving her the confidence – or at least, the illusion of confidence – that’s so critical for someone living in the public eye.

“I’m actually a very shy person – that’s a big secret, so don’t tell,” Lively, 23, reveals in a chat with Ben Affleck in September’s Interview magazine. “But being in [acting] classes pushed me to break out of that a little bit. It’s like nature versus nurture: I’m naturally very shy, but I was brought up in a way where I had to get up and get out of that.”

Affleck directed and stars with Lively in the upcoming heist thriller The Town. In the Interview piece, he remarks on how comfortable she seemed on set, even while filming a sex scene with him on the very first day of shooting.

Lively credits both her upbringing and her training for the maturity that belies her age. “I have a big family, and no one ever treated me like a child,” she says. “They always treated me like an adult, like an equal.”

Her Acting Family

But a lot of it is just keeping up appearances. “With acting, I think half of it is just acting confident. We stand on these red carpets and pose in these dresses, but we’re all only so confident. It doesn’t mean we think we’re great looking or anything. It’s all a facade.”

Lively comes from a family of actors, but says they were all down to earth – they didn’t treat show business as anything special. In fact, Lively jokes she followed in their footsteps for the most mundane of reasons.

“I don’t feel like I ever had any sort of Hollywood upbringing,” she says. “I got to travel and visit my family on set. I got to eat craft service. I actually think that was the reason I got into acting: the free food. I literally remember on my first job being like, ‘Yes! I get to have craft service every day!’ ” (Source)
